Islay Whiskies at Peatzeria

Islay is famous for whisky and there are many distilleries here. Our small island is the perfect location for producing rich, smoky, peaty whiskies. This is due to the abundance of peat we have in the ground, which gives Islay whiskies their signature flavour. It’s why we’re called Peatzeria after all!

So, next time you visit our pizza restaurant in Bowmore, why not have a wee whisky tasting? We have many Islay whiskies for you to try. And here, we’ve put together three of our favourite, and very different, brands of single malt to get your started.

Light – Bunnahabhain

If you’re looking for a lighter, less peated whisky to begin with, we’d suggest something from the Bunnahabhain Distillery. Bunnahabhain produces whiskies that are smooth and sweet, creamy and lightly smoky. They vary in taste, but include flavours such as vanilla, cherry, orange and lemon.

Medium – Bowmore

As we are based in Bowmore, of course, Bowmore whisky is very popular here. They produce mainly medium-peated whiskies, with flavours including honey, tropical fruits, cinnamon and mint. This is a good introduction to the more smoky and peaty Islay whiskies.

Smoky – Ardbeg

Ardbeg Distillery is known for making super smoky whiskies. Extremely peaty Scotch, rich and full-bodied, they feature flavours like malt, fruit cake, anise and coffee. You might need to work your way up to an Ardbeg whisky!
