New Year’s Resolutions for a Healthy 2019

Our New Year’s Resolution List

As a new year approaches, it’s time to set some new goals for a healthy and happy 2019. Here’s our new year’s resolution list for a little inspiration.

Healthy Eating

After an indulgent festive period, healthy eating is at the top of many people’s list of resolutions. But the trick here is to avoid fad diets and quick weight-loss plans. Instead, work on a healthy eating plan you can stick to for life.

To maintain a balanced diet, you need a wide variety of foods in the right proportions. So, that means plenty of fruit, vegetables and starchy carbohydrates, some meat, fish and protein, some milk and dairy, and just a small amount of saturated fat, salt and sugar.

When you eat out in a restaurant, look for the healthier options. Here at Peatzeria, simply ask your waiter for our lower calorie options and recommendations. It’s ok to treat yourself once in a while too. And you can balance it out over the course of the week.

Get Fit and Stay Fit

Another popular new year’s resolution is to exercise more. But that doesn’t mean going to the gym every day in January before losing the motivation for it altogether. Find a routine that works with your lifestyle. And find a form of exercise that you actually enjoy. There’s something out there for everyone! For some people, joining a local team or group really helps to keep them going, while others like to do their own thing. Whatever activity you choose, make the commitment to stay active. Walk instead of driving. Take the stairs, not the lift. Aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise per day, and you’ll be on your way to a fitter, healthier you.

Sleep More

This one should be easy, but many of us just aren’t getting enough sleep. An average person needs 7 to 9 hours per night, but you might need more or less than that, as everyone is different. Sleep is so important as it gives us energy, allows our body to heal and repair, and generally makes us happier and healthier.

Get Outdoors

Your mental health is just as important as your physical health. So, you need to take care of your mind as well as your body. Here on Islay we are surrounded by beauty and nature, and it’s vital we get outdoors and enjoy it. Simply going for a walk can reduce stress. And at Islay Cottages, we have scenery like this on our doorstep, which is sure to boost your mood!

So, happy new year, when it comes, to all our friends and customers! We hope our new year’s resolution list will help you to enjoy a healthy and happy 2019.
